The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a warm, nostalgic atmosphere—a no-frills, friendly cafe vibe where hearty portions and affordable prices take center stage. It’s this unpretentious charm that keeps regulars coming back; as customer Ella Guo put it, “Open until 2 AM! Every dish only $10!” speaks volumes about their commitment to accessible, late-night dining.
The culinary offerings at J J Hong Kong Cafe are a masterclass in comforting Cantonese staples and inventive fusion dishes. Their Indo Fried Rice is infused with savory richness, while the Baked Pork Chop Rice delivers a perfect marriage of tender meat and crispy, caramelized topping. For noodle lovers, the Beef Chow Fun showcases silky wide rice noodles tossed effortlessly with tender beef and a smoky wok hei fragrance that is simply unforgettable.
Light yet indulgent options such as the Wonton Noodle in Soup and the soothing Fish Filet in Porridge provide the quintessential Hong Kong café comfort food experience, perfect for any time of day. The menu also offers Western-inspired favorites including the classic Club Sandwich and the ever-satisfying Steak and Eggs, delivering an inclusive experience that caters to all palates.
To complement the diverse dishes, the cafe’s beverage lineup is equally impressive. Their Coke with Lemon and refreshingly tangy Lemonade are perfect thirst quenchers, while drinks like the creamy Thai Iced Tea and the soothing Ginseng with Honey add distinctive finishes to the meal. The famed Ice Milk Tea captures the essence of Hong Kong’s café culture—a sweet, velvety classic that pairs superbly with any savory bite.
What truly sets J J Hong Kong Cafe apart is its consistency and value. Longtime patron Tina Tran captures this sentiment perfectly: “J J Cafe has been a staple in the 626 for decades… huge portions and affordable prices — you really can’t go wrong here.” Generous servings mean leftovers are the norm, allowing you to savor the flavors well beyond your visit, a detail Russ Lacuata appreciated when noting the “plenty of leftovers to take home.”
While the ambiance leans towards casual and traditional rather than trendy or modern, it is precisely this authenticity that makes J J Hong Kong Cafe a gem for those who crave hearty, satisfying meals without pretense. As Pretty Huang reflects, it’s “not a fancy spot, but it’s the kind of place you come to when you want something hearty without spending a lot.” The consistently hot dishes and down-to-earth atmosphere make it an ideal gathering spot for friends and family seeking comfort food with a genuine touch.
For visitors exploring Monterey Park’s rich Asian culinary landscape, J J Hong Kong Cafe stands out as a steadfast beacon of quality, tradition, and affordability. Open until 2 AM! Every dish only $10! JJ Hong Kong Café — I’ve been eating here for over ten years!
An oldies but goodie! Food is great and portion size is generous. We had plenty of leftovers to take home. The place could use some refresh.
JJ Cafe has been a staple in the 626 for decades, and it’s easy to see why. I’ve always loved their huge portions and affordable prices — you really can’t go wrong here. My go-to order is the ribeye steak with pasta and pepper sauce, and it hits every time. Their lemon iced tea is also super refreshing and pairs perfectly with any meal. It’s a great spot for gatherings with friends or family, with plenty of indoor seating and a friendly staff that makes you feel right at home. If you’re looking for a reliable neighborhood favorite that never disappoints, JJ Cafe is it.
Honestly, the prices here feel really reasonable compared to most places now. Everything on the table was pretty affordable, and you still get a good amount of food. The mixed plate was filling, came out hot, and tasted solid. It’s not a fancy spot, but it’s the kind of place you come to when you want something hearty without spending a lot. I’d definitely come back.
We came here for late night food at midnight. The food was wonderful, I will have to come back and try other items. The menu was extensive and long.
A few days ago, I met up with my childhood friend from Guangdong at USC at a long-established restaurant in the LA Chinatown. The ingredients are top-notch, the portions are generous, and the taste is consistently good! It's near the university, so there are lots of students around. Perfect for a bowl of congee before class or a steak afterwards. Also a great place to have a comfortable Thanksgiving meal if you're too lazy to cook. Peanut Butter French Toast $9 Golden and fluffy, with a soft, sticky peanut butter filling. Served with a small box of syrup, sweet and fragrant.
I can count on J J Cafe being open late and having amazing authentic food. Parking is easy in their lot. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly wait service. I ordered the Won Ton Soup. I also ordered the Pork Hocks and Beef Stew Lo Mein. We got to put some of those noodles in our soup. Tender meat.
Haven’t been here in a while, but the value is better now. $23 for the mixed plate is solid — big portion, no complaints.
